Timing for UAVs and Battery-Powered IoT End Nodes

Drones, remote sensors, trackers and battery-powered IoT end nodes live on a tight power budget. Every milliwatt extends the flight or battery life. The oscillator cannot be a full-power OCXO that drains the pack in minutes; it also cannot drift so fast that GNSS-denied operation loses position. The answer is a low-power TCXO, a micro-disciplined oscillator, or a chip-scale atomic clock where holdover is critical.
